How Esano counts visits to your shop

Updated

A visit is counted when someone opens your shop page or one of your listing pages. Esano counts each page once per browser session, leaves out your own visits and automated traffic, and groups visits by day (UTC) and by source.

What counts as a visit

  • Opening your shop page counts as a visit to your shop.
  • Opening one of your published listing pages counts as a visit to that listing.
  • The Visits number on Stats and Overview adds both together.
  • Each page counts once per browser session. Reloading the same page doesn't add more.

So if one buyer opens your shop page and two listings in one sitting, that's three visits.

What isn't counted

  • Your own visits. Visits while you're signed in as the shop owner or as one of your team members aren't counted. If you look at your shop while signed out, it counts as a normal visit.
  • Bots and tools. Search engine crawlers, link previews, uptime and speed tests, and scripted or automated browsers are left out.
  • Unpublished pages. Drafts and listings that aren't live have no public page to visit.

Why your numbers may differ from other tools

  • Other tools may count people instead of page views, or may count every reload.
  • Esano counts each page once per browser session, so someone returning later in a new session counts again.
  • Days run on UTC. Visits near midnight where you live can land on a different day. See Change the date range on your stats.
  • Esano's count leaves out your own signed-in visits and bots, which other tools may include.

What Esano keeps

Esano stores counts only: how many visits a page got on a day, from which kind of source. It doesn't keep a list of who visited. For how Esano measures without analytics cookies, see Cookies and tracking on Esano.

Deleted listings

If you delete a listing, its past visits stay in your shop's totals, but the listing no longer appears in Listings by visits.

Fewer visits than you expected?

Check the date range first, since a short range or a new shop has fewer days to count. Then look at Where visits came from to see which sources are sending people. See Where your shop visits come from.

Common questions

Are my own visits counted?

Not when you're signed in as the shop owner or a team member. If you look at your shop while signed out, that visit counts.

Does one person count once?

Not exactly. A visit is counted once per page for each browser session, so one person opening three of your listings counts as three visits.

Do bots count as visits?

No. Esano leaves out search engine crawlers, link previews, monitoring tools and scripted browsers.
