Esano accepts seven embroidery formats: DST, PES, PEC, JEF, HUS, VIP and VP3. Files must be machine-ready and pass a stitch-file check.
Accepted formats
- DST
- PES (machine-ready files only)
- PEC
- JEF
- HUS
- VIP
- VP3
Each can be up to 1 GB. A listing can hold up to 5 files. See file size and count limits.
Formats Esano refuses
- EXP. It has no header, so Esano can't check what is inside. It's refused on its own and inside a ZIP.
- INF and BMP. These companion files are refused, on their own and inside a ZIP.
- Editable PES projects. Only machine-ready PES files are accepted.
For other unsupported types, see file types Esano doesn't accept.
What the stitch check does
Esano reads the structure of each embroidery file: its headers, thread and color tables and stitch records. A file is blocked when that structure is damaged or uses a version Esano can't verify.
A DST file with conflicting or missing header fields is refused. Esano doesn't repair it.
You'll see this message if a file fails:
"This embroidery file is damaged or uses a version we can't check. Export it again from your embroidery software in a standard machine format."
Export the design again from your embroidery software and upload the new file. See fix a blocked file.
Sell several machine formats in one listing
Buyers use different machines, so many shops offer one design in several formats.
- Export the design as each format you want to offer, such as DST, PES and JEF.
- Upload them as separate files (up to 5), or put them in one ZIP. See ZIP files for listings.
- Wait for each file to show Ready.
Esano detects the formats itself and shows them on the listing. See automatic file formats.
Photos for embroidery listings
Show the finished stitched design in your photos. Photos are shown to buyers only to look at, and aren't delivered. See preview photos vs delivered files.
Find the right category
Put embroidery listings in the Embroidery category: https://esano.com/c/embroidery. In the buyer's file type filter, all seven formats appear under Embroidery. See choose the right category and file details.

Common questions
Why is my EXP file refused?
EXP files have no header to check them against, so Esano can't inspect them safely. They're refused on their own and inside ZIPs.
Why was my PES file blocked?
Esano accepts machine-ready PES files only. Editable PES projects are refused. Export a machine-ready PES from your embroidery software.
