Use embroidery files with your machine

Updated

Download the file in the format your machine reads, unzip it if needed, and copy it to your machine on a USB drive or through your embroidery software. Check your machine's manual for the formats it accepts.

Embroidery formats on Esano

Esano accepts seven embroidery formats:

  • PES and PEC: commonly used by Brother and Baby Lock machines
  • JEF: commonly used by Janome machines
  • HUS: commonly used by older Husqvarna Viking machines
  • VIP: commonly used by Pfaff and older Husqvarna machines
  • VP3: commonly used by newer Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff machines
  • DST: a widely supported format, common on Tajima and commercial machines

These are general guides. Your machine's manual lists exactly what it reads. Each listing shows its formats, and you can use the File type filter's Embroidery group to find one. See filter files by type, price and resolution.

Esano doesn't convert one format into another. If your machine needs a format that isn't in the download, use conversion software or ask the shop whether it has another version.

Get the file onto your machine

  1. Download the file from Purchases and reviews. See download files you bought.
  2. Unzip it if it came as a ZIP. See download several files or a ZIP.
  3. Copy the embroidery file to a USB drive. Some machines want it in the main folder, so check the manual.
  4. Plug the drive into your machine and choose the design on its screen.

You can also open the file in embroidery software on your computer first to resize it or change colors, if your software supports that format.

What Esano checks

Esano reads an embroidery file's structure before a shop can sell it, and refuses files that don't parse correctly. PES files must be machine-ready. Esano doesn't test files on every machine and doesn't promise how a design will stitch out. Thread, fabric and stabilizer affect the result.

If a file won't load

  • Check that your machine reads that format.
  • Re-copy the file to the drive, then try again.
  • Make sure the file name isn't too long for your machine.
  • Try a different USB drive, as some machines only work with small ones.

If it still won't load, see fix a file that won't open or looks wrong. You can also browse embroidery designs on Esano.
