A ZIP counts as one file toward your 5-file limit, and every file inside it must be a supported type that passes the same checks as an upload on its own.
Limits for ZIP files
- The ZIP itself can be up to 1 GB.
- When opened, its contents can total up to 2 GB (2,000,000,000 bytes).
- Up to 1,000 entries.
- ZIPs inside ZIPs can nest up to 3 levels deep.
- Each file inside can't expand more than 100 to 1 compared with its compressed size.
- The check has to finish within 90 seconds.
Any file inside is held to its own limits too, for example 1 GB per file.
What must be inside
Every file inside must have a supported extension. See file types you can sell. If even one file is an unsupported type, such as an .exe, .psd or hidden system file, Esano blocks the whole ZIP. Folders are fine, as long as the files in them are supported.
Each file inside is inspected with the rules for its type. See what each file type must meet.
What gets a ZIP blocked
- Password protection or encryption
- A file inside that is unsupported, damaged or contains scripts or macros
- More than 1,000 entries, nesting deeper than 3 levels, or expanding more than the limits above
- Extra comments or hidden metadata in the ZIP, or other unusual structure such as data after its end, duplicate names, or odd file paths
- An empty ZIP
- A format other than ZIP: RAR, 7z, TAR and GZ aren't accepted
For the "unusual structure" message, create the ZIP again with your computer's standard zip tool. Don't edit it in place.
Tips for a smooth ZIP
- Collect only the files buyers need. Leave out system files and old drafts.
- Check that every file is a supported type.
- Create the ZIP with your computer's standard tool, with no password and no comment.
- Keep it under 1 GB. If it is bigger, split it into two ZIPs.
- Upload it with Add files.
How a ZIP shows to buyers
Esano reads the supported contents of the ZIP and shows their formats on the listing. ZIP also stays in the list for buyers who filter by ZIP. A ZIP counts as one download, and its contents don't add to the file count. See automatic file formats.
Replacing a ZIP
Replacing a ZIP works like any other file. See replace files on a live listing. If your ZIP is blocked, see fix a blocked file.
Embroidery bundles with several stitch formats work the same way. See sell embroidery files.
Common questions
Can I upload a RAR or 7z file?
No. Only ZIP is accepted. RAR, 7z, TAR and GZ files are refused. Re-create the archive as a ZIP.
Can I password protect a ZIP?
No. Encrypted ZIPs can't be inspected, so Esano blocks them. Remove the password before you upload.
