What each file type must meet to pass the check

Esano reads the inside of every file. These are the rules for each type, so you can fix a file before you upload it. Fonts and embroidery have their own articles: sell fonts and sell embroidery files.

Images: PNG, JPG, WEBP, TIFF

• One frame only. Animated or multi-page images are blocked.
• Up to 40 megapixels (width times height).
• The contents must match the extension. A different format renamed to .png is blocked.
• No extra data after the end of the image. Export again from your editing app if you see this error.

SVG

• Up to 20 MB.
• Static shapes only. Scripts, animation, foreignObject, audio, video and embedded media are refused.
• Links can only point to something inside the same file. External links and embedded data: images are refused.
• Esano refuses <!DOCTYPE> declarations beyond a simple standard one, and any XML entities or processing instructions.

PDF

• Up to 5,000 pages.
• No password or encryption.
• No JavaScript, launch actions, attachments, forms that submit data, movies or sound. Plain fillable form fields are allowed.
• Embedded images up to 40 megapixels each.
• Some PDF variants are refused because they can't be inspected safely. If that happens, export again with standard settings.

Documents, spreadsheets and presentations

This covers DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, POTX, ODT, ODS, ODP and EPUB.

• No macros, embedded objects, ActiveX or other embedded files.
• No links to outside resources inside the file's internal parts.
• No audio or video.
• No DDE, INCLUDE or LINK fields in documents, and no formulas that call outside services such as WEBSERVICE or HYPERLINK.
• Pictures and fonts inside must themselves be supported types.

CSV, TSV, JSON and TXT

• UTF-8 text up to 20 MB.
• CSV and TSV: every row needs the same number of columns, at least 2 and up to 10,000. A cell can't start with =, +, - or @ unless it is a plain number. This blocks spreadsheet formula tricks.
• JSON: the top level must be an object or an array.
• TXT: plain text only. Lines that look like code, such as ones starting with import, def, function, const or #!, are refused. Esano doesn't accept source code products.

3D models: STL and OBJ

• Up to 200 MB.
• STL can be binary or ASCII, with valid geometry.
• OBJ can only contain vertices, normals, texture coordinates, faces and group or object names. Material lines such as mtllib and usemtl are refused.

ZIP files

A ZIP has its own limits, and every file inside must follow the rules above. See ZIP files for listings.
