Listing title and description rules

Updated

A listing title is 3 to 140 characters. A description can be up to 5,000 characters, and it needs at least 20 to publish. Both are plain text.

Write the title

The help text under Title says: "What the file is and what it's for. Buyers search with these words." The placeholder shows the idea: "Retro Cat Illustrations, High-Res PNG".

  • Use 3 to 140 characters. A counter under the field shows 0 / 140.
  • Include some letters or numbers. A title made only of symbols is rejected.
  • Extra spaces are squeezed into single spaces when you save.
  • Lead with what the file is, then add the format or use.

You need a valid title to save the listing, even as a draft. A new draft has no title until you type one.

Write the description

The help text under Description says: "Separate paragraphs with a blank line." The placeholder suggests what to cover: what's in the download, sizes, and how buyers can use it.

  1. Open your listing and go to Details → Description.
  2. Describe what buyers get: the subject, how many designs or pages, the file formats and sizes.
  3. Say how they can use it and who it's for.
  4. Leave a blank line between paragraphs. On the listing page, each block of text separated by a blank line becomes its own paragraph.
  5. Select Save changes.

You can write up to 5,000 characters. A description shorter than 20 characters saves fine as a draft, but Publish will refuse it with "Add a description (a sentence or two) before publishing."

Write titles and descriptions that get found

This article covers the rules. For what to put in them so buyers find your listing, see write a listing title buyers search for and write a listing description that ranks. They also explain how the first paragraph becomes your search snippet and why near-identical descriptions rank poorly. For how titles and descriptions show up on Google, see how Google finds your listings.

The description is shown as plain text. A web address you type will not become a clickable link. Esano delivers the files you upload, so there is no place to add an outside download link. See what you can and can't put in a listing.

If a description is nearly the same as another listing in your shop, the editor shows a notice after you save. See fix a near-duplicate description notice.
