Every live listing gets a score from recent purchases, carts, favorites and reviews, and the highest scores rank first on Trending. New listings get a free starting boost. Points fade fast, so the list follows what shoppers want right now.
How points work
Each of these earns points for a listing:
- A purchase: 10 points. Only paid orders count, once per buyer for each listing.
- Added to a cart: 3 points, for as long as the item is in the cart. If the buyer then buys it, the purchase points replace the cart points.
- A favorite: 2 points.
- A review: up to 2 points. More stars earn more points, and a 5-star review earns the full 2.
- A new listing: 8 starting points when a listing first goes live. See below.
Points lose half their value every 2 days. After about two weeks, they're worth almost nothing, and only the last 30 days of activity are counted at all. A listing that sold a lot last month but nothing this week sinks.
If two listings have no points, the newer one ranks first.
The new listing boost
A listing gets 8 free points when it is first published, and they fade the same way as all points. They are gone after about a week.
- Only your shop's first 5 new listings each day get the boost. The day is counted in UTC.
- Taking a listing down and publishing it again doesn't reset the boost.
If you have many listings to publish, you can spread them over several days so each gets the starting boost. See Publish a listing so buyers can find it.
Rules that keep it fair
- Your own activity doesn't count. Your purchases, carts and favorites on your own listings are ignored.
- Each person counts once per listing.
- Refunds take points back. A refunded item no longer counts as a purchase.
- Custom orders don't count as purchases.
- No more than two listings in a row from one shop. Nothing is hidden. When another shop's listing is available, it moves up so one shop doesn't fill the page.
- Shops on vacation stay off Trending. They come back when the shop does. See Turn on vacation mode.
- Only live listings count. Drafts, unpublished and removed listings don't.
How it shows up
- The Trending page lists the top 1,000 listings, 48 per page. Everything else still shows in categories, search and shop pages. Shoppers see the page as described in What Trending means on Esano.
- The home page shows the top few as a row.
- Trending is the same for everyone. It isn't personalized.
- Trending isn't search. A high Trending rank doesn't change where you appear in search results. See How Esano search ranks your listings.
What you can do
You can't buy or request a spot. You can make a listing easier to buy:
- Publish with a clear title and a strong cover photo. See Choose listing photos that get clicks.
- Price fairly and describe exactly what's included.
- Take care of your buyers. Reviews add points, and a good review also helps other shoppers. See Do reviews help listings get found?.
Common questions
How often does Trending update?
The ranking is recalculated every hour. Everyone sees the same list, and pages refresh within about 5 minutes after that.
Do my own purchases or favorites count?
No. A shop owner's own purchases, carts and favorites never count toward their listings.
Why did my listing drop off Trending?
Points fade by half every 2 days, so a listing needs fresh activity to stay up. A shop on vacation is also left off Trending until it's back.
