How Google finds your listings

Updated

Esano publishes a page for every live listing and lists it in its sitemap automatically, so Google and other search engines can find it without any work from you. Esano can't control when Google visits a page or how it ranks it, but you control the words and image it works from.

What Esano does for you

  • A page for each listing. Your listing's address is esano.com/l/ followed by its number and words from its title.
  • A sitemap. Live listings with an approved photo are listed in Esano's sitemap. A new or changed listing page updates within about 5 minutes.
  • Links to your listing. Your listing is linked from its category page, your shop page and the "similar items" and "more from" sections of other listing pages.
  • Details for search engines. Each page includes structured data with your title, description, cover and gallery images, category, Search keywords, each license price in US dollars, your shop name and, once you have reviews, your rating and reviews.

Your shop page is kept out of search engines until it has a listing for sale. Esano's own search result pages aren't listed either, and filtered versions of browse pages aren't listed separately.

What shows in Google

Google chooses what to show, but Esano supplies these:

  • The title. Esano uses your title followed by "by" and your shop name when the whole thing is 52 characters or fewer. If it's longer, Esano shortens your title to 52 characters at a word boundary and leaves out the shop name. "| Esano" is added at the end.
  • The description. It starts with your title, then your file types and dimensions, such as "PNG, SVG digital download", then the first paragraph of your description, all cut to 155 characters. A paragraph that starts with "Please note", "Terms", "License", "Copyright", "Refund", "No physical" or "Digital download only" is skipped.
  • The image. Your cover image is the one provided for previews.
  • Prices and stars. Each license price is included in US dollars. Rating details are only included when your listing has at least one review, and they match what's on the page. Whether Google displays them is up to Google.

Improve what Google sees

  1. Put the key words first in your title. Esano keeps at most 52 characters of it for search engines. See Write a listing title buyers search for.
  2. Lead your description with the product. Put terms and notices in later paragraphs. See Write a listing description that ranks.
  3. Write each description from scratch. Near-identical descriptions across your listings rank poorly.
  4. Fill in Dimensions and DPI. They go into the description line and into the question and answer section on your page. See Add dimensions, DPI and color space to a listing.
  5. Use a clear cover. See Choose listing photos that get clicks.
  6. Keep your shop open. A shop on vacation keeps its listing pages online, but they're marked as not available to buy.

Check your results

Open Stats in your seller hub and look at Where visits came from. Google and Other search engines show the visits that arrived from search results. New pages need time to be crawled, so check back later. See Where your shop visits come from for what each source means.

Common questions

Do I need to submit my listings to Google?

No. Esano gives every live listing its own page and lists it in its sitemap automatically. Google decides when to crawl a page and whether to show it.

Can I choose what Google shows for my listing?

Not directly. The title, file types, dimensions and first product paragraph of your description are used to build the text. Google makes the final choice.

What happens to my listing's address if I change the title?

The address changes with the title, and the old one permanently redirects to the new one, so existing links and search results still reach your listing.
