Add up to 13 words or short phrases buyers might search for that your title doesn't already say. Keywords rank right after the title in Esano search.
What the field does
The Search keywords field is optional. In the listing editor it says: "Words buyers might search for, separated by commas. Up to 13." The list can be up to 400 characters in total.
Search keywords do four things:
- They rank. A match in your keywords counts more than a match in your description. See How Esano search ranks your listings.
- They feed search suggestions. When a shopper types in the search box, Esano suggests up to five phrases taken from the keywords and categories of live listings. A short, natural phrase can show up there.
- They appear on your listing page under Related searches.
- They are included in the page's data for search engines as keywords. Search engines may or may not use them.
Search keywords are not shown as filters on your shop. Use Shop groups for that. See Create and manage shop groups.
Pick keywords that add something
Your title and keywords work together. A listing ranks in the fourth group when every search word appears somewhere across the title and the keywords, so your keywords should fill the gaps.
- Write your title first.
- List other ways a buyer might describe the file: the use ("tumbler wrap", "sublimation"), the occasion ("halloween", "baby shower"), the subject ("ghost", "pumpkin"), the style ("boho", "watercolor").
- Keep each keyword to a phrase a buyer would type. "retro cats" is better than "retro, cats, retro cat design, cat retro art".
- Skip words your title already covers.
- Skip wording that doesn't describe the file. Unrelated popular words bring shoppers who leave.
You don't need to add the file type or the category. Search already reads both.
Keep keywords accurate
Keywords are used in a few places outside your listing page. Esano's editors can build a collection from a rule such as "listings with the tag halloween", so accurate keywords can help your listing qualify. Wrong keywords can put it in front of the wrong shoppers. See How Editors' collections work.
Add or change keywords
- Open Listings in your seller hub and choose the listing.
- Find Search keywords, enter words separated by commas, for example
retro, cats, sublimation. - Save the listing.
If you add more than 13 keywords or go over 400 characters, the editor shows "Up to 13 short keywords." and doesn't save. For every field in the Details section, see Set a listing's category, keywords and groups.
Common questions
How many search keywords can I add?
Up to 13 per listing, separated by commas, and the whole list can be up to 400 characters.
Are search keywords the same as shop groups?
No. Search keywords help buyers find your listing in search. Shop groups are your own sections that buyers use to filter your shop page.
Do I need both singular and plural keywords?
No. Search treats common word forms such as cat and cats as the same word, so one is enough.
