Start your title with what the file is, in the words a buyer would type, such as "Retro cat illustrations". Then add the use or file type. The title is the part of your listing that search weighs most.
Why the title matters most
- Three of the five search ranking groups are based on the title. See How Esano search ranks your listings.
- It shows on every listing card, cut off after two lines.
- It becomes the first part of the page title and the web address that search engines see.
- It is also used as the description of your listing photos for people using screen readers and for search engines.
A title can be 3 to 140 characters. The editor shows a counter under the Title field.
Write the title
- Lead with what it is. "Retro Cat Illustrations" tells a buyer more than "Amazing digital download".
- Add the use or file type. "High-Res PNG for Sublimation" adds words buyers type. A word that only appears in your file types or description can push the listing into the lowest ranking group, so put important words in the title.
- Use everyday words. Write what buyers search, such as "wedding invitation template", not an internal name.
- Keep the key words in the first 50 or so characters. Esano keeps at most 52 characters of your title in the page title that search engines see, and the first words are the ones people read.
- Be specific. Add the subject, style or set size, such as "Watercolor Pumpkin Clip Art Set, 12 PNG Files". A specific title also stands apart from other shops' titles.
- Spell it correctly. Spelling correction helps shoppers who misspell, not titles that do.
You don't need to list every spelling. Plurals match automatically, and clipart, clip art and clip-art are treated as the same.
Examples
Stronger titles:
- Retro Cat Illustrations, High-Res PNG for Sublimation
- Floral Wedding Invitation Template, Printable PDF
- Pumpkin SVG Cut File Bundle for Fall Crafts
Weaker titles:
- Cute set!!
- Digital download
- My new design
Change a title later
- Open Listings in your seller hub and choose the listing.
- Edit the Title and save.
The listing's web address is built from the title, in lowercase words joined by hyphens. When you change the title, the address changes too. The old address permanently redirects to the new one, so links you've already shared keep working. Editing a listing doesn't change the date it was published.
For the title and description limits, see Listing title and description rules. To change other parts of a live listing, see Edit a listing.
Common questions
Should I put my shop name in the title?
No. Esano adds your shop name to the page title that search engines see whenever it fits, so repeating it wastes space.
Does capitalization or punctuation matter?
No. Search ignores capital letters and punctuation, so write the title for people, not for the search box.
Can I change a title after publishing?
Yes. The listing's web address changes with the title, and the old address redirects to the new one, so saved links keep working.
