Get better search results

Updated

Esano search finds files whose title, tags, category, file format or description contain your words. Every meaningful word you type has to match, so shorter searches usually find more.

What search looks at

Search checks these parts of a listing:

  • The title
  • The seller's tags
  • The category
  • The file formats, like PNG or SVG
  • The description

Common word endings work. A search for "flower" can find "flowers." Search doesn't look at the image itself, so describe what you want in words a seller would use.

Spellings Esano treats as the same

Esano treats these variants alike, including their plurals:

  • clipart, clip art and clip-art
  • tshirt, t-shirt and t shirt

This is a short fixed list. Search doesn't know that two different words mean the same thing.

How results are ordered

With Most relevant selected, Esano puts the strongest matches first:

  1. Files whose full title matches your search.
  2. Files with your exact phrase in the title.
  3. Files with all your words in the title.
  4. Files with all your words across the title and tags.
  5. Files that match only through the category, format or description.

Within each group, newer listings come first when the match is otherwise equal. Choosing Newest or a price sort replaces this order. See Sort search results and browse pages.

If you misspell a word

When a search finds nothing, or only the weakest kind of match, Esano may try a close spelling. It only does this for words of four or more letters that don't appear in any title or tag. If it does, the page says Including close matches for and the corrected words. Your original matches stay in the results.

An unclear spelling can still return nothing.

When you get no results

You'll see "No files match" followed by your search. Try this:

  1. Check the spelling.
  2. Use fewer words. "Boho wreath" finds more than "boho watercolor wreath png transparent."
  3. Search by file format, like "svg", or by what the file is for, like "planner."
  4. Remove filters. Any filter you've applied shows as a pill above the files. Click the × on a pill to remove it.
  5. Browse categories instead.

Common questions

Does search understand synonyms?

Not in general. Esano treats a short list of known spellings as the same, like clipart, clip art and clip-art, but it doesn't match different words with similar meanings.

Why did I get results for a different spelling?

If a search finds nothing or only weak matches, Esano may try a close spelling for words of four or more letters. The page then says "Including close matches for" and shows the spelling it used.
