Are Esano downloads scanned for viruses?

Updated

Yes. Before a shop's file can be sold, Esano checks that it's an allowed file type and built correctly, then scans it for malware. Files that fail can't be downloaded by anyone.

What happens when a shop uploads a file

  1. Held privately. The file isn't available to anyone while it's checked.
  2. Type check. The file must be one of the types Esano accepts. See file types you can buy on Esano.
  3. Structure check. Esano opens the file in an isolated environment and checks its contents. It rejects programs, scripts, files with macros, password-protected or encrypted files, and archives built to expand into huge amounts of data.
  4. Malware scan. A third-party scanning service looks for viruses and other malware.

Only files that pass every step become downloads. A file that fails is blocked for good: a shop can't override it, and neither can Esano staff. Shops can read how this looks on their side in how Esano scans your files for viruses.

ZIP files get the same checks

Esano checks every file inside a ZIP. One file that isn't allowed means the whole ZIP is rejected. See download several files or a ZIP.

Files are checked again later

Esano rescans approved files regularly. If a file that was clean is later flagged, it's removed from download for everyone, including past buyers.

If that happens to a file you bought, Esano works with you to arrange a replacement or a refund. Email customerservice@esano.com if you think this applies to you.

Your files stay private

Only the buyer of a paid order gets a link to the file. The link is created when you select Download and lasts about a minute. See do Esano download links expire.

Esano doesn't alter your files

The file you download is the one the shop uploaded. Esano doesn't convert it or add anything to it.

What Esano can't promise

No scan catches everything, and Esano can't guarantee a file will work in your app. Esano's terms also say that downloads can't be guaranteed free of viruses, so keep your own antivirus software up to date. For the habits that protect you once a file is on your device, see download and open files safely.

Report a problem

If a file looks suspicious, don't open it. Email customerservice@esano.com with your order number and the item name, or use Contact Esano. To flag the listing itself, see report a listing or shop.

Common questions

Does Esano scan files for viruses?

Yes. Esano checks the file type and structure of every download and scans it for malware before a buyer can download it.

Can Esano guarantee a file is virus-free?

No. Esano's checks are strong but no scan is perfect, so keep your own antivirus on.
