Open the files you downloaded

Look for the file in your Downloads folder, then open it with the right app for its type. Find the type at the end of the file name, such as .png or .svg. To see what each type is, read file types you can buy on Esano.

Images: PNG, JPG, WEBP, TIFF

Double-click the file to open it in your photo viewer, or drag it into a web browser. To edit, use an image editor such as Photoshop, Affinity Photo or Canva. PNG files can have a clear background, which some viewers show as white or a checkerboard.

Vector files: SVG

A web browser shows an SVG as a quick preview. To change it, use a vector app such as Inkscape, Illustrator or Affinity Designer. To cut it with a craft machine, see use SVG and PNG files with Cricut or Silhouette.

PDFs and printables: PDF

Open a PDF in your browser or any PDF reader. When you print, set the scale to Actual size or 100%. Settings such as Fit to page shrink the design and can change its printed size.

Documents, spreadsheets and presentations

• DOCX, XLSX and PPTX open in Microsoft Office. Google Docs, Sheets and Slides can also open them.
• ODT, ODS and ODP open in LibreOffice.
• POTX is a PowerPoint template. Double-click it to start a new presentation.
• CSV, TSV, JSON and TXT open in a text editor. CSV and TSV also open in a spreadsheet app.
• EPUB opens in an ebook reader app, such as Apple Books.

3D models: STL and OBJ

These open in 3D modeling or slicer apps. Esano doesn't pick an app for you, so check what your printer or software accepts.

Fonts and embroidery

ZIP files

Unzip a ZIP before you open what's inside. See download several files or a ZIP.

If a file still won't open

Check that the whole file downloaded, and try a different app. See fix a file that won't open or looks wrong. If a file asks for something odd, such as a password or to enable macros, see download and open files safely.
