What you need to open a shop

Updated

To open an Esano shop you need a free Esano account, your legal name and date of birth, a shop name, and a US Stripe account to get paid. The shop itself costs nothing to open.

Before you start

  • An Esano account. Setup asks you to sign in or create one. Use an email address you check often. Esano sends all notices about your shop to the email on your account.
  • Your legal first and last name. Setup uses it to verify sellers. It stays private and never appears on your shop.
  • Your date of birth. You must be at least 18. See who can sell on Esano.
  • United States as your country of residence. It is the only option setup offers today.
  • A shop name. It is 3 to 40 characters and becomes your shop's web address. Read how to choose a shop name first.
  • A rough idea of what you will sell. Setup asks you to choose categories. See what you can sell on Esano.

What you need to get paid

Esano pays sellers through Stripe. On Stripe's secure site you confirm your identity and add the bank account you want to be paid into. It takes about 5 minutes. Esano never sees your bank details.

You can do this during setup or later. Until you do, you can build drafts but you cannot publish paid listings. See set up payouts when you open a shop.

Esano's seller terms also say Esano needs a tax ID number for 1099-K reporting. You give it to Stripe. See add your tax information in Stripe.

What you need for your first listing

You do not need any files to open the shop. When you are ready to list, have these on hand:

  • The files buyers will download.
  • At least one preview image that shows buyers what they get.
  • A short description of what is included.
  • A price, or a decision to offer the listing for free.

The first listing checklist walks through each one.

Optional extras

You can add a shop logo and banner after your shop is open. Neither is needed to open it. See add a shop logo and banner.

What it costs

Opening a shop is free, with no subscription and no listing fees. Esano takes 20% of the item price when you make a sale, and card processing is included in that fee. Stripe also charges payout fees when money goes to your bank. See what fees Esano charges sellers and Stripe payout fees explained for everything that comes out of a sale.

How long does setup take?

Setup is short. You answer a few questions, name your shop, enter your details and review the fees. Connecting Stripe takes about 5 minutes more.
