Esano can't tell you whether you owe income tax. You sell on Esano as an independent contractor, so your own taxes are your responsibility. Esano gives you records that can help.
Your relationship with Esano
The Retailer Terms say Esano is a marketplace and venue for sellers to offer and sell their products. No agency, partnership, joint venture or other relationship is created between you and Esano, except that of independent contractors. See Esano seller terms in plain language.
You don't need a business to sell. You can sign up as an individual creator.
What Esano handles, and what it doesn't
- Sales tax on orders: Esano calculates, collects, files and pays it. See whether Esano collects sales tax.
- Your tax ID and tax form details: you give these to Stripe when you set up payouts. See add your tax information in Stripe.
- Tax on your earnings: this is yours to work out. Esano doesn't tell you how much to set aside, and its help pages can't say how your earnings are taxed.
Records you can download
- Open Seller hub → Payouts.
- Scroll to Balance history.
- Choose the month with Statement month (UTC) and select Show statement.
- Select Download monthly CSV.
The table shows Date, Activity, Balance change, Tax, Esano commission and Reference for each entry. The CSV includes every entry for the month, even when the table shows only some of them. Months follow UTC dates, so an entry near midnight may fall in a different month than your local date. See download your payout statements for what each column means.
Your Orders pages also list each sale. See view and filter your orders. You can use these along with your Stripe dashboard. Select Manage on Stripe on the Payouts page to open it.
Form 1099-K
Esano collects the tax ID number it needs for 1099-K reporting. Read Form 1099-K and your Esano sales for what Esano can and can't say about it.
Get help with your own taxes
Ask a tax professional about:
- whether your Esano earnings are taxable in your situation
- how to treat Esano's 20% fee and any filing cost
- how a 1099-K relates to your records
Common questions
Does Esano give tax advice?
No. Esano can explain how its own records and fees work, but you should ask a tax professional about your own taxes.
Where can I download a record of my sales?
On the Payouts page, open Balance history and select Download monthly CSV.
Is Esano my employer?
No. The Retailer Terms say no agency, partnership, joint venture or other relationship is created between you and Esano, except that of independent contractors.
