Yes. Where sales tax applies, Esano calculates it at checkout, adds it on top of the item price, and is responsible for filing and paying it. You don't collect or remit sales tax on your Esano sales.
How sales tax works at checkout
- Listing prices never include tax. Your listing shows the price in USD, with local taxes calculated at checkout.
- Stripe calculates the tax. Checkout asks the buyer for a full billing address so the rate is right for where they live.
- The tax is added to the buyer's total and itemized in the cart and in the order confirmation email.
- The same applies to custom orders. The buyer pays the agreed quote plus any tax at checkout.
Who files and pays the tax
Esano does. Esano is the seller of record for tax purposes on every order, so it is responsible for filing and paying the sales tax collected. Your shop doesn't register for sales tax or send tax to a state because of an Esano sale.
Does every order have sales tax?
No. Tax is only charged where Esano is registered to collect it. In other places, the tax line is $0 and the buyer pays just the item price. Where Esano is registered can change over time, so a buyer in the same place may see a different result later.
Free items don't have tax, because there is no payment to tax.
