Why the Tax column says Under review

Updated

Under review in the Tax column means Esano hasn't finished recording the sales tax for the items in that sale. It doesn't change your earnings, because those come from the item price.

Where you see it

  1. Open Seller hub → Payouts.
  2. Go to Balance history.
  3. Choose a month and select Show statement.
  4. Look at the Tax column.

For most sales the column shows a dollar amount, which is the sales tax on that sale. It shows Under review when the tax for one or more of the items in that sale isn't recorded yet. Esano doesn't show a $0.00 in its place, because a missing amount isn't the same as no tax. For the rest of the page, see read your Payouts page and download your payout statements.

What it affects

  • Your earnings. Nothing changes. Balance change is based on the item price. See how sales tax affects your earnings.
  • Refunds. A refund also returns the item's share of the tax, so the original tax has to be recorded first. If it isn't, the refund can't go ahead and you see: "Original item tax must be reconciled before this refund can proceed." Buyers may see a refund total described as "plus reconciled item tax" until it is.
  • Your records. Only the tax amount for that sale is missing. The rest of the entry, such as the date, activity and Balance change, shows as usual.

What to do

Nothing in your dashboard lets you fix it yourself, and a missing tax amount doesn't mean you did something wrong. If an entry stays under review, or a refund is stuck because of it, contact Esano support at customerservice@esano.com. Include your shop name and the order number so support can look at the order.

If a review is blocking a refund you need to send, say so in your message.

What happens when you refund

When an order is refunded, the buyer gets back the item price plus the item's share of the tax. See what happens to sales tax when you refund. To offer a refund yourself, see issue a refund to a buyer.

Common questions

Does Under review change what I earn?

No. Your earnings come from the item price, not the tax. The Tax column only shows the tax recorded for that sale.

Why can't I refund an order with Under review tax?

A refund returns the item's share of tax, so the original item tax has to be recorded first. Esano shows "Original item tax must be reconciled before this refund can proceed."
