A listing's star rating is the average of all the star ratings in its reviews, shown to one decimal place out of 5. A shop's rating is the average across all reviews on the shop's items for sale.
Listing ratings
Esano adds up the stars from every review on the listing and divides by the number of reviews.
For example, if a listing has three reviews with 5, 5 and 4 stars, the total is 14 stars across 3 reviews. The listing shows 4.7, and the stars fill to match.
You'll see the rating in a few places:
- At the top of the listing page, next to the number of reviews.
- In the Reviews for this item section, with the review count.
- On the item's card, with the number of reviews in parentheses.
The rating breakdown
Under the average in Reviews for this item, the breakdown has a bar for each star level, from 5 stars down to 1 star. Each bar shows what percent of the reviews gave that many stars, rounded to a whole percent. Because of rounding, the percentages may not add up to exactly 100%.
Shop ratings
On a shop page, the number next to the star near the top is the shop's overall rating, followed by the total number of reviews. Esano combines every review on the shop's items for sale. A listing with more reviews counts for more, so the shop's rating is the same as averaging every individual review together.
When stars appear
- A listing or shop shows stars only once there is at least one review.
- A listing with no reviews says "No reviews yet." on its page.
What counts toward the rating
- Reviews from buyers with a paid, non-refunded purchase. See who can leave a review.
- Edits count right away. If a buyer changes their stars, the average updates.
What stops counting
- A review the buyer deletes.
- A review that Esano takes down for breaking the review guidelines.
A refund doesn't remove a review, so it keeps counting. See what happens to your review after a refund.
Written text doesn't change the rating. Only the stars do. A review with a rating and no text counts the same as a review with a rating and a long write-up.

Common questions
How does Esano work out a listing's rating?
It adds up the stars from every review on the listing and divides by the number of reviews. The result is shown to one decimal place out of 5.
Why doesn't a listing show any stars?
Stars only show after the listing gets its first review. Until then the listing page says "No reviews yet."
