Report a message or conversation

Updated

Open the conversation, select Report, choose what's wrong and send it. Esano reviews the report, and the other person isn't told.

Report from an open conversation

These steps work for buyers (Your account → Messages) and for sellers (Seller hub → Messages). Sellers can find seller-specific tips in report an abusive or spam buyer message.

  1. Open the conversation.
  2. Select More actions (the ··· button at the top of the conversation) and then Report. You can also select Report this conversation in the side panel.
  3. In the Report this conversation window, choose one reason under What's wrong?:
    • Spam
    • Harassment or abuse
    • Scam or asking to pay outside Esano
    • Something else
  4. Add context in Details. This box is optional and holds up to 1,000 characters.
  5. Select Report.

You'll see "Reported. Esano will review it." and go back to your inbox. The Report button stays off until you pick a reason, so nobody files a report by accident.

Report several conversations at once

  1. Open your inbox.
  2. Tick the box next to each conversation you want to report.
  3. Select Report in the toolbar above the list.
  4. Choose a reason, add optional details and select Report.

The window title reads "Report 3 conversations" (or however many you picked), and one reason applies to all of them. If some reports fail, Esano tells you how many went through and asks you to try the rest again.

Which reason to choose

  • Spam: ads, repeated promotions or messages that have nothing to do with a listing or an order.
  • Harassment or abuse: insults, threats or messages that keep coming after you asked them to stop.
  • Scam or asking to pay outside Esano: someone who wants payment by another service or who tries to move you to another site. See Never pay outside Esano.
  • Something else: anything that doesn't fit, such as someone pretending to be Esano. Use Details to explain.

What happens after you report

  • Esano saves the report for review.
  • The conversation moves to Archived and is marked as read for you.
  • The other person isn't told. Esano doesn't send them a message, an email or an alert.
  • Esano doesn't show you the result of the review in the app.
  • If the other side sends a new message later, the conversation moves back to your Inbox. See archive a conversation.

Esano keeps messages to prevent fraud and to help with disputes, so the conversation is available if Esano needs to look at it. Esano's Terms of Use prohibit impersonation, spam and harassment, and let Esano suspend or end access for violations.

A report isn't how you ask for a refund or fix an order. For that, see Request a refund.

If you need help right away

A report goes into a review queue. If you think you're in danger, contact local emergency services first. For anything else that needs a person, email customerservice@esano.com or call 888-463-7051. You can also use Contact Esano support.

If the message came by email or text instead of inside Esano, there's nothing to report in the app. Forward it to customerservice@esano.com. For the full picture of messaging, see Find and manage your messages and What not to share in messages.

Common questions

Will the other person know I reported them?

No. Esano doesn't send them a message, email or notice. The conversation moves to your Archived folder.

Can I report just one message?

No. You report the whole conversation. Add details in the report so Esano knows which message matters.

Can I report more than one conversation at once?

Yes. Select them in your inbox, then choose Report. The dialog title changes to the number of conversations you picked.
